Saturday, 23 May, will see a number of exciting sporting events. The focus isn’t just on the Ice Hockey World Championship.
Women’s Champions League Final
Barcelona and Lyon will battle it out to decide the champions in the Women’s Champions League final. The French side will attempt to stop the Catalans, who are in superb form. Lyon is one of the most successful teams in the history of women’s football.

Diamond League
The second round of the Diamond League is due to take place. Karsten Warholm will be aiming to reclaim the season’s lead in the hurdles. The Ukrainian women will be competing in the jumping events for the first time.
Ryan Krauser returns to the shot put for the first time since 2024. So, it’s fair to say that all the leaders in both disciplines are in place.
In the long jump, Mattia Furlan will be aiming for strong results and to achieve even better marks than last week.
Ukrainian athletes will take part in the first Diamond League event. Yulia Levchenko and Iryna Herashchenko will represent the country in the high jump.
The Diamond League will be broadcast on the Suspilne Sport TV channel and local Suspilne TV channels, as well as on the YouTube channel, starting at 2 pm.
2026 Ice Hockey World Championship
Austria v Germany
The German ice hockey team has surprised many with a rather lacklustre performance at the 2026 World Championship. They still have a chance of qualifying. The Austrians are keen to avenge their humiliating thrashing in the previous round against Switzerland. Their neighbours could significantly reduce Germany’s chances of reaching the play-offs.
Switzerland – Hungary
The tournament hosts are having a phenomenal group stage. The Alpine side has established itself over dozens of seasons as a solid mid-table team capable of reaching the final and winning.
The Swiss national ice hockey team has already secured its place in the play-offs. This could work in Hungary’s favour. At the same time, one shouldn’t assume that a lack of motivation to pick up points will significantly affect the ‘Red and Whites’ spirit, as they will be playing in front of tens of thousands of their own fans.
In the event of a sensational victory, Hungary could still progress from the group. The Swiss certainly look like the most complete team in the tournament and have surprised many, as they are traditionally considered outsiders among the elite.
Broadcasts of the Ice Hockey World Championship are also being provided by Suspilne Sport.
