France and Morocco will face each other at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on 9 July. Both teams have the chance to reach the World Cup semi-finals.
The French national team
France have comfortably won their first four matches of this World Cup, but in the round of 16 they had to work hard to secure a 1–0 victory over Paraguay. Mbappé scored from the penalty spot.
Didier Deschamps’ side are considered favourites to win this World Cup. France have won 13 of their last 16 matches by a margin of at least two goals.
Morocco
The Moroccan national team showed composure in the round of 16. They knocked co-hosts Canada out of the tournament, scoring three goals from just four shots on target.
It is worth noting that the team have suffered seven of their last nine World Cup defeats by a margin of just one goal. In four of their five World Cup matches, Morocco have received no more than one yellow card.
Prediction
France do not look like a particularly formidable force following their last match, and the team are also dealing with injuries.
Morocco will pose considerable difficulties for Les Bleus, but France remain the favourites nonetheless. We can expect over 2.5 goals.
