The Argentina national team and the Egypt national team will play at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on 7 July.

Argentina national team

The reigning champions’ performance in their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde was not particularly convincing. In the end, Lionel Scaloni’s side won 3–2.

The positive run continues for ‘La Albiceleste’. The national team have won all of their last 24 matches on neutral ground, and there is no reason to expect any upsets.

It is worth noting that Argentina have scored at least two goals in each of their last ten World Cup matches. In four of their last five matches, the team managed to score their first goal before the 30th minute.

Argentina’s Lionel Messi, the all-time leading goalscorer at World Cups, is aiming to become only the sixth player in history to score in his first five World Cup matches.

Argentina have no new absentees from their squad.

Egypt national team

Egypt made history in their Round of 32 match against Australia, as their victory on penalties marked their first-ever success in the knockout stages of a World Cup finals tournament. Now, a serious test awaits the ‘Pharaohs’.

In Egypt’s last six World Cup matches, both teams have scored. The African side have managed to score exactly one goal in the first half in four of their last five international matches.

Mohamed Hani is likely to miss the match for Egypt due to concussion. Ahmed Fathouh may once again be sidelined due to a thigh injury.

Prediction for the Argentina v Egypt match

On paper, Argentina look to be one of the strongest sides. They also consistently create a large number of chances.

Egypt have proved to be a tricky opponent at this World Cup, but this time they face one of their toughest rivals. An interesting bet could be on an Argentina win with both teams to score.
