The Ukrainian national ice hockey team is preparing for the start of the World Championship Division 1A competition. The team spent the final day of their training camp on 30 April in Bytom, Poland, and will move to Sosnowiec on 1 May, where the main event – the start of the tournament – will take place, reports Sport Bet.

During the preparations, the coaching staff, led by Dmytro Khrystych, decided to part ways with seven players who had taken part in the camp. Goalkeeper Serhiy Pysarenko, defenders Volodymyr Volkov, Hlib Petrov and Ivan Korodyuk, and forwards Bohdan Panasenko, Mykhailo Simchuk and Illia Shybinsky have left the camp. The team now has 24 players at its disposal, including the following:

The coaches will finalise the squad for the World Championship on 1 May. Only 23 of these 24 players will be selected to represent Ukraine at the tournament. The national team’s opening match is scheduled for the very next day — on 2 May, the Ukrainians will face the tournament hosts, the Polish national team.

Time for the final selection and preparation for the opening games is extremely limited. But we have a team full of fighting spirit and a shared goal. Ukraine has something to prove — so let’s wish our players every success in this challenging tournament.

As a reminder, last year the Ukrainian national team failed to reach the top division, despite some impressive results.
