On 3 April, Chernihiv played a home match against the First League leaders, Bukovyna from Chernivtsi, as part of the 21st round. Despite the hosts’ best efforts, the match ended in a narrow 0–1 victory for the visitors.
The first half was dominated by Bukovyna. The team created several dangerous chances but failed to convert them. In addition to the tense play, the match was also affected by an air raid alert, which forced the game to be temporarily suspended.
The second half began with more active play from Chernihiv, who significantly improved their performance on the pitch and attempted to take the initiative. However, the decisive moment came shortly before the final whistle — it was the visitors who managed to open the scoring and secure the victory.
Following this result, Chernihiv remain in 11th place in the league table with 19 points. The team’s next match will be an away fixture on 7 April, when they face Kharkiv’s Metalist.
It is also worth mentioning the recent historic success of Chernihiv Football Club. On 18 March, the team reached the semi-finals of the Ukrainian Cup, defeating Phoenix-Mariupol in a dramatic match.
The match ended goalless after normal time — 0–0 — and the outcome was decided in a penalty shoot-out, with the home side winning 5–4. Interestingly, the match was originally scheduled for the previous day but was postponed due to the threat of shelling.
Reaching the semi-finals of the Ukrainian Cup was a historic achievement for Chernihiv. The team now faces a tough challenge against a Ukrainian Premier League side – Kharkiv’s Metalist 1925.
Earlier, in the 12th round of the UPL, Dynamo lost to LNZ. Prior to that, the team had lost in the league’s ‘classic’ derby against Shakhtar in the previous round (1–3).
