A match in the 28th round of the Spanish second division championship had to be interrupted due to the death of a fan. The tragedy occurred on 1 March during a match between Sporting and Leganes, according to Sport Bet.

The football match lasted only four minutes and was cancelled due to the sudden death of an 82-year-old fan. The incident occurred in the stands of the Municipal El Molinón stadium. The long-time fan, who had been a season ticket holder for 40 years, was given emergency medical assistance, but his heart stopped. The teams unanimously refused to continue the match.

Sporting’s press service expressed its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased fan, noting that the man had been a loyal supporter of the club for four decades.

The match will resume on 2 March at 21:00 Kyiv time.

Sporting is in the top ten of the Segunda Division table, while Leganes is in fifteenth place.
