The Ukrainian national hockey team continues its winning streak at the 2025/26 European Nations Cup. Ukrainian hockey players won their second consecutive victory over Romania. In the rematch, which took place in Bucharest, the ‘blue and yellows’ celebrated a 2-1 victory.
This is the second victory for Dmytro Khristych’s team over Romania in two days, as the first match also ended in favour of our team (3:2). According to the initial plan, the national teams of Spain and Lithuania were also supposed to participate in the mini-tournament, but due to their withdrawal, the Ukrainian team is playing all three scheduled matches against the Romanian national team.

Unlike the first match, when the Ukrainians opened the scoring, in the second match the hosts took the lead in the first period. In the thirteenth minute, Yevhen Skachkov opened the scoring on a power play, hitting the ‘nine’ from a pass by Matias Haaren.
The score was tied before the end of the first period. Thanks to a pass between the defenders, 17-year-old Denys Zherebko successfully picked up the puck and found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, confidently beating him and tying the score at 1-1.
Denis Matusevich, who had already assisted on Zherebko’s goal, set up the second winning goal for the Ukrainians. With a pass from his own goal, he found Viktor Zakharov in the centre of the rink, who, breaking away from the defender, successfully scored on the rebound and brought the team a hard-fought 2:1 victory.
As a reminder, the Ontario Hockey League has announced the reason for Luke Dragushitsa’s disqualification.
