Famous Ukrainian footballer and football coach Serhiy Rebrov was born on 3 June 1974 in Horlivka, Donetsk Oblast. For most of his sporting career, he played as a striker, but towards the end of his career he played as an attacking midfielder.
He made his debut with Shakhtar Donetsk and spent most of his career playing for Dynamo Kyiv. Rebrov also played for Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United in London, Fenerbahçe in Istanbul, and Rubin Kazan in Kazan.
Achievements
Winner of three championships:
- Ukraine (nine times);
- Turkey;
- Russia.
Rebrov was recognised as the second (after Maksym Shatskikh) best striker in the history of the Ukrainian championships. In addition, Serhiy Stanislavovych is the first striker to score a hundred goals in the Ukrainian championship.
He played 75 times for the Ukrainian national team, scoring fifteen goals.
He was a quarter-finalist in the 2006 World Cup.
As a player and coach, Rebrov was the first to win the Ukrainian Cup.
He won the Ukrainian championship twice as head coach of Dynamo Kyiv.
He won the Hungarian championship three times as a member of Ferencváros Budapest.
Serhiy Rebrov and his clubs
During his football career, Rebrov played for the following clubs:
- Shakhtar. The future famous striker began his professional career at Shakhtar Donetsk. He joined the team as a young player in the 1990/91 season.

His playing career includes participation in the last USSR championship in 1991, when
the team was led by Valery Yaremchenko. Playing for Donetsk, he played 26 games and
scored 12 goals.
- Dynamo. In August 1992, Rebrov transferred to Dynamo Kyiv. Between
1992 and 2000, he demonstrated high performance as part of the Kyiv team. He
scored 93 goals in 189 championship matches and 18 goals in 35 Ukrainian Cup matches. - Tottenham. In early summer 2000, the former Dynamo player joined
London club Tottenham. After playing 59 matches and scoring 10 goals, he left
the team due to a conflict with new coach Glenn Hoddle. - Fenerbahçe. The footballer was loaned to Istanbul’s Fenerbahçe, where Rebrov played
from 2002 to 2004. In his first season, he played 13 matches and scored 2 goals, and in
the next season, he played 30 matches and scored 3 goals. In total, he played
more than 40 matches and scored five goals for the Istanbul club. - West Ham United. After his failure at Tottenham, Rebrov was loaned to
London’s West Ham United, where he spent one season (33 matches, 2
goals). This led to him losing his place in the Ukrainian national team. - Rubin. As part of Rubin, Rebrov became the champion of Russia (2008). After leaving the club
in the summer of 2009, he rejected offers from Kyiv’s Arsenal and decided to end
his playing career. After that, he began working as an assistant in the youth team
of Kyiv’s Dynamo.
End of football career
Serhiy Stanislavovych Rebrov ended his football career at the end of the 2000s (2009). Since then, he has been working as a coach. In 2014-2017, he was the head coach of Dynamo Kyiv.
Since 2023, he has been the head coach of the Ukrainian national team.
