Two-time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge has announced the end of his professional career, but at the same time presented a new inspiring project. The legendary athlete plans to run seven marathons on seven continents, including Antarctica, to prove that true love for running has no limits and does not end with the last finish line.
Although the 40-year-old Kenyan will no longer compete in traditional professional marathons, he has no intention of saying goodbye to his favourite activity. His initiative has a charitable purpose – to draw attention to sport, support young runners and demonstrate that strength of spirit can overcome any obstacle. As part of this project, Kipchoge plans to run a marathon distance on every continent, as well as cover a symbolic 50 kilometres in Saudi Arabia.
‘Running is a language of unity that needs no translation. I want to inspire people, remind them that nothing is impossible, and that everyone can overcome their own marathon in life,’ said the athlete, commenting on his idea.
The world tour will last about two years. The organisers are already working on the route, which will include both traditional city tracks and extreme natural conditions – the highest point of this challenge will be a race in icy Antarctica. It is there that Kipchoge wants to prove that even in the harshest conditions, a person is capable of finding inner strength if they have a passion for what they do in their heart.
Eliud Kipchoge’s career
Throughout his career, Eliud Kipchoge has become a symbol of endurance and discipline. He has won two Olympic gold medals, set a world record in the marathon (2:01:09) and became the first person to run 42.195 km in under two hours in a special experimental race. His name has long been synonymous with perseverance and belief in one’s own abilities.
Now, as he embarks on a new phase, Kipchoge wants to do more than just run — he wants to bring people together around the idea of movement, peace and inspiration. His marathons on seven continents will be not only a sporting event, but also a symbol of the limitless potential of human beings.
Let us remind you that Turin’s Juventus quickly found a successor for the dismissed Igor Tudor. They decided to invite former national team coach Luciano Spalletti to replace him.
