Elina Svitolina, Ukraine’s top tennis player, managed to achieve a positive result at the Canadian Open, which is held alternately in Toronto and Montreal. She made it to the quarterfinals, achieving a convincing victory over American Anisimova – 6:4, 6:1.

This is the fourth time in her career that the Ukrainian has reached this stage of the Canadian tournament. Among current Ukrainian tennis players, this is the second-best result. Only Victoria Azarenka has achieved better (five quarter-finals).

In WTA 1000 tournaments in 2025, the upcoming quarter-final will be Svitolina’s fourth. Previously, Ukraine’s top player was in the top 8 in Indian Wells, Madrid and Rome.

This season, only Iga Swiatek of Poland has recorded more quarter-finals in the ‘thousand’ tournaments (five – Doha, Dubai, Madrid, Indian Wells, Miami). Arina Sobolenko and Mirra Andreeva also have four quarter-finals each.

In the quarterfinals of the tournament in Montreal, Elina Svitolina will play against former world number one Naomi Osaka, who is a four-time Grand Slam champion.

Novak Djokovic was knocked out of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters after a ‘terrible’ defeat to Alejandro Tabilo. The Serb, who is still seeking his 100th career title, played his first match on clay since winning gold at the Paris Olympics in July 2024 and struggled to find his rhythm.
