Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has attracted the attention of two English teams. Every season, he faces a difficult choice between fighting for a place in the starting lineup and transferring to another club in search of more playing time and minutes, so this time it’s more serious. Last summer, the goalkeeper decided to extend his contract until June 2028, but with the understanding that this does not guarantee him a permanent place in the starting lineup of the “cream”. Last season, when Thibaut Courtois recovered from a serious injury, the Ukrainian only took the field 14 times. This forced him to reconsider his future at Real Madrid. Lunin has always aspired to be the first choice, but with the Belgian goalkeeper on the team, he inevitably finds himself in his shadow.
Which clubs are interested in Lunin
Newcastle United and Manchester United are interested in signing Lunin. The Magpies intend to take the Ukrainian on loan with an option to buy.
After winning the English League Cup last season, the Tyneside club tried to sign Lunin on loan with an option to buy, but their initial offer was rejected. Real Madrid is not considering his departure in the near future, according to the publication, especially given his performances at key moments when Courtois was out with injury. Despite not being the first-choice goalkeeper, he has proven his reliability, and the Ukrainian’s experience in recent years makes him an attractive candidate for English clubs.
Manchester United is also keen to continue evaluating alternatives given the possible departure of Altay Bayindir and the need for competition for Andre Onana.
