Bayer Leverkusen quickly decided to dismiss new coach Erik ten Hag. The Dutch specialist did not hide his disappointment.
After only the second round of Bundesliga matches, changes were announced. The Dutchman, who was hired this season as the successor to Xabi Alonso, was dismissed, setting a new record.
No other club in Bundesliga history has dismissed a coach who was hired only in the summer. The decision was made by the Shareholders’ Committee, the supervisory body of the factory club, on the recommendation of the club’s management.
Among the possible successors to ten Hag, who signed a contract until 2027, are Spaniard Xavi and Marco Rose.
The Dutchman responded to the club’s decision with incomprehension in his statement. He sought
‘Parting ways with a coach after only two league games is unprecedented,’ said ten Hag.
The Leverkusen team lost to Hoffenheim and drew with Werder at the start of this season.
