Thanks to the efforts of Lyudmila Luzan, the Ukrainian national team managed to win a “golden” double at the 2025 World Championships in kayaking and canoeing.
She triumphed in the 200-meter singles, according to Sport Bet.
The Ukrainian athlete managed to win a medal at the 2025 World Championships on the opening day of the finals. The canoeist, paired with Iryna Fedoriv, became the champion in the Olympic distance – 500 meters.
With Luzan participating, the next two finals were scheduled for the penultimate day of the competition. Moreover, the Ukrainian rower had to compete in two finals at once: first in the singles at the crown distance of 500 meters, and then, paired with the same Fedoriv, at 200 meters.
The rower beat her main rival in the singles. Luzan’s first final ended in victory. She beat Canadian Kate Vincent by 1.23 seconds.
Paired with Fedoriv, she managed to win. The Ukrainian rower in the 200-meter double sculls beat her “neutral” rivals by 0.72 seconds.
Luzan’s medals and their significance
For the first time in her career, Luzan won a medal in the 200-meter canoe doubles event. Overall, this is Ukraine’s first award in the history of world championships in this type of rowing.
Three gold medals at the 2025 World Championships is a record for Luzan at a single world championship. In terms of the total number of awards, it is a repeat of the record at a single world championship.
These are Luzan’s seventh and sixth gold medals in her career at the World Canoe and Kayak Championships. At the 2025 World Championships alone, the Ukrainian has already won three gold medals.
Luzan has one more final ahead of her at the world championship – in the 200-meter singles. It will take place on Sunday, August 24.
Recall that the Olympic champion set a record in running an innovative distance. Winifred Yavi, Olympic champion in Paris, managed to become the world record holder.
