The Edmonton Oilers lost 5-2 to the Florida Panthers at their home stadium Rogers Place in the fifth game of the series to make it four wins for the Stanley Cup.
“The Oilers are now 2-3 in terms of wins in the series. “The Panthers can win the NHL championship again on Tuesday night. The Oilers, on the other hand, will need a win to continue to compete for the Stanley Cup.
Connor McDavid made it 1-3 in the final period, but only 46 seconds later Sam Rinehart restored the three-goal lead to 4-1. With six players on the ice and no goalie, Edmonton scored one more goal, but also gave up another empty-netter. After two goals, Brad Marchand had already scored six goals in the final series, a feat that had not been achieved since 1988.
Chris Noble, the Oilers coach, said it’s hard to fall behind, but you can’t afford to do it too often against a team like this.
“We know we have to win the last two games, but we’re confident we can do it. We have overcome difficult situations before,” he said after the game.
As a reminder, the US national team won the World Ice Hockey Championship. The team triumphed again after decades without a cup.
