Paris Saint-Germain was celebrating a historic 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in Munich. Overall, calm prevailed, but riots broke out in the French capital, leaving two people dead.

On the night of PSG’s historic triumph in Europe’s premier club competition in Paris, rioters looted shops, broke windows and set fire to cars. According to the French Ministry of the Interior, another 559 people were arrested across the country, the vast majority of them in Paris.

The disturbances were reportedly particularly visible on the Champs Elysees and near the Parc des Princes stadium, where tens of thousands of football fans had gathered to watch in public. Emergency services were sometimes attacked with fireworks, and the police used tear gas against rioters.

French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau wrote on X about ‘barbarians’ provoking security forces, while true fans were excited about the final between PSG and Inter in Munich.

Violent celebrations of the final victory also led to two deaths in France. In Dax, in the south of France, a young man was stabbed on the sidelines of a fan celebration. According to media reports, the second fatality was a woman riding a scooter in Paris who was hit by a car driven by fans.

There were no serious disturbances in Munich. In the Bavarian capital, the police report was positive. According to police officers, the night after the final remained generally peaceful, despite minor clashes between rival fans. Most of the fans behaved honestly and did not cause any disturbances. There were 15 preliminary arrests, for example, for trespassing, and no serious incidents.
