Back then, the teams exchanged victories: first, the Blue and Yellows won 3-1, and the next day they lost 2-3, when they were 2-0 up after two periods. The head coach of the Ukrainian national team, Dmytro Khrystych, recalled those matches before the game.
‘We remember that these were very intense matches. There will be no relaxation in this division. We have been preparing and working to get results in this division. We mainly played friendly matches with teams that are higher in rank than us,’ he was quoted as saying by the Ukrainian Hockey Federation.
Dave McQueen, the head coach of the Romanian national hockey team, commented for Suspilne Sport before the third round match of the IIHF World Championship in Division IA against Ukraine.
‘Ukraine? I don’t think they are the weakest team. I like the way they play, the way they played against us, they were competitive, ‘close’ games. I think they move well on the ice, they have skilled hockey players. They have everything to succeed at this level,’ he told the Ukrainian publication.
