Tennis player Novak Djokovic has called his performance at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters a failure. He lost 6-3, 6-4 to Alejandro Tabilo in the second round and crashed out of the tournament.

The Serb, who is still looking to win the 100th title of his career, was playing his first match on clay since winning a gold medal at the Paris Olympics in July 2024 and struggled to find his rhythm.

‘I expected at least a decent performance from myself. But it wasn’t like that. It was terrible. I didn’t have high expectations, really. I knew I was going to have a tough opponent, and I knew I was probably going to play pretty bad. But I didn’t expect this bad,’ Djokovic said.

Alejandro Tabilo leads 2-0 in his career head-to-head meetings with Djokovic, after he also defeated the 24-time Grand Slam champion in their previous meeting at the Italian Open in May 2024. These are the only victories of the Chilean that have been ranked in the top 10 in his career.

It is noteworthy that the tennis player has been struggling for form this season. Tabilo came to Monte Carlo with a 2-9 record in 2025 and an eight-match losing streak on clay, according to ATP data.

Tabilo, the 32nd seed in the world rankings, will play 15th seed Grigor Dimitrov in the third round on Thursday.

Earlier, Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostiuk completed her performance at the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami.
