Former Barcelona player Memphis Depay provoked a new rule on yellow cards in Brazil.
Standing on the ball is prohibited. This was the decision of the Brazilian Football Federation after Corinthians and Palmeiras met in the Paulista Cup final.
In the 90th minute, Corinthians forward Memphis Depay stood on the ball in front of the opposing defenders, which led to a clash between the players and a delay in the game for several minutes. His team was winning 1-0 on aggregate.
The South American football organisation CONMEBOL has advised that technical and disciplinary measures must be taken, including the award of an indirect free kick and the issuance of a yellow card when an athlete performs this action,’ the CBF said in a statement.
Depay, a former Barcelona and MU player, reacted to the ban.
“I did go to Brazil to experience the “beautiful game” first-hand, but now the CBF has announced that no player can stand on the ball. Not that it’s such an important factor in football, but I don’t see the problem here. Brazilian football is developing and deserves to be world famous. There is so much talent here, and the joy and passion in the way people express themselves on the pitch should not be limited,” he explained.

Former Barcelona and Brazilian national team player Neymar supported Depay.
‘Football is getting more and more boring,’ Neymar said.
Earlier, the media reported that Thomas Mueller may leave Bayern Munich.
