Spain will host the Swiss national team at the Eliodore Rodriguez Lopez Stadium in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on 18 November.

Spain national team

After a goalless draw with Serbia in September, Spain won all four matches in the UEFA Nations League. The latest victory over Denmark (2-1) also guarantees the Red Furies first place in Group A4. La Roja already secured a place in the quarter-finals last month, but they are unlikely to slow down on their way to their tournament triumph.

The reigning champions can be confident in this regard, as they have not lost 20 games – the longest run in Spain with 28 games from June 2010 to October 2013. Coincidentally, this longer streak began after a 1-0 defeat to Switzerland at the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup group stage.

Having scored ten times in his last six games for Villarreal (eight goals, two assists), Ayoze Perez continued his excellent form in Spain with a goal and an assist against Denmark.

Switzerland

Since then, the Swiss have only beaten Spain once in seven meetings, with Murat Yakin’s men drawing some confidence from the fact that their only victory on Spanish soil came in the Nations League in September 2022. Confidence is currently lacking for the Swiss after Friday’s 1-1 draw with Serbia, which sealed their relegation to League B.

It was a bitter pill to swallow for Switzerland as they looked set to climb off the bottom of their Nations League group, but an 88th-minute draw confirmed their first ever relegation from the top flight. It could get worse, as if Switzerland fail to beat Spain here, it will be their seventh consecutive game without a win – their longest run without a competitive win since November 1986.

Only two of Switzerland’s last 16 matches in the Nations League have ended in a goalless draw at half-time.

Zeki Amdouni, who is fighting for a permanent place in the Benfica squad, has scored three goals in his last four international matches – but only one of his last six matches in which he has scored has resulted in a win for his country.
